Appointments & visits

How do I schedule an appointment?

Call our office at (424) 404-8832. New patients are welcome. When you call, let us know what you are coming in for so we can allow the right amount of time.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes for gynecologic care. Our obstetric practice is deliberately limited — Dr. Kim takes on a small number of pregnancies at a time so that each patient gets his direct attention throughout. If you are pregnant or planning to be, call early.

What are your office hours?

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. We are closed for lunch from 12:00 to 1:00, and closed Saturdays and Sundays.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Photo ID, your insurance card if you are using insurance, a list of your current medications and supplements, and the date of your last period. If you have had recent labs, imaging, or a prior Pap result from another office, bringing those saves us from repeating them.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice when you need to cancel, so we can offer the time to another patient. We do not charge a cancellation or missed-appointment fee.

Who you will see

Will I see Dr. Kim, or another provider?

Dr. Kim personally provides obstetric and gynecologic care at Yunella, and he performs your ultrasounds himself rather than handing them to a technician.

Who delivers my baby if Dr. Kim is not available?

Dr. Kim delivers his own patients whenever possible. In the uncommon situation where he cannot be there — another delivery already in progress, illness, or planned time away — you are cared for by one of a small group of physicians he has worked alongside for years and trusts with his own patients. These are not strangers pulled from a call roster; they are colleagues he chose.

Insurance & payment

Full detail, including a complimentary benefits check, lives on the Insurance & Payment and Out-of-Network Care pages.

You pay us at the time of service, and we give you an itemized superbill with the diagnosis and procedure codes your insurer needs. You submit it to your plan for reimbursement directly. More →

Pregnancy & obstetric care

The substance lives on the Pregnancy Care and Concierge Maternity pages.

When should I schedule my first prenatal visit?

As soon as you have a positive test. We generally see patients for a first obstetric visit between 6 and 8 weeks, and earlier if you have a history that warrants it.

Where does Dr. Kim deliver?

At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Grove, where he has held privileges and taught for fifteen years. He also holds privileges at CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. Hospital details →

Who performs my ultrasounds?

Dr. Kim does, in the office, rather than sending you to a technician whose images are read later by someone you never meet. How often imaging is performed depends on your pregnancy and what is medically indicated.

What is the concierge maternity program?

It is a membership that adds extended appointment time, direct access to Dr. Kim, and enhanced support throughout your pregnancy. The membership is separate from your medical billing; if you have insurance, we continue to bill it for covered clinical care. Learn more →

Gynecologic care

What happens at an annual well-woman visit?

A review of your health history and concerns, a physical exam including breast and pelvic exam where appropriate, cervical cancer screening on the recommended interval, and time to discuss contraception, hormones, fertility plans, or anything else on your mind.

How often do I need a Pap test?

For most people, every three years from age 21, or every five years from age 30 if the Pap is combined with HPV testing. Your history may call for a different interval, which Dr. Kim will discuss with you.

Do I still need annual visits if I do not need a Pap every year?

Yes. Cervical cancer screening is one part of a well-woman visit, not the whole reason for it. The annual visit is also when we address contraception, cycle changes, perimenopause, breast health, and preventive screening.

Do you perform gynecologic surgery, and where?

Yes. Dr. Kim performs gynecologic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. Gynecologic surgery →

Do you treat perimenopause and menopause?

Yes. Dr. Kim cares for patients through the menopause transition and beyond, including evaluation of irregular cycles, hot flashes and night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and bone and heart health. Treatment may include hormone therapy where it is appropriate for you, along with non-hormonal options. Menopause care →

Am I in perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the years-long transition before your final period, and it often starts in the early-to-mid forties. Cycles become irregular, and symptoms like hot flashes, sleep trouble and mood shifts can begin while you are still having periods. There is no single test that confirms it — the diagnosis comes from your symptoms and history, which is what a visit is for.

Aesthetics & wellness

Do I need to be an existing patient to book an aesthetic treatment?

No. Aesthetic and wellness treatments are open to everyone. You are welcome to come to us for these services alone, whether or not you see us for gynecologic care.

Is aesthetic treatment covered by insurance?

No. Aesthetic treatments are elective and paid directly. We will give you the cost during your consultation, before anything is scheduled.
