David Seil Kim, MD, PhD, MBA, FACOG

Board-Certified OB-GYN Serving Beverly Hills, West Los Angeles & Greater LA

Recognized as a Los Angeles Magazine Top Doctor, Dr. David Seil Kim is a board-certified OB-GYN with nearly three decades of experience in obstetrics, gynecology, and minimally invasive surgery. For fifteen of those years he practiced at Cedars-Sinai, including eight leading its OB-GYN residency program as Assistant Program Director and, in 2012, Interim Program Director. He has also served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, evaluating physicians seeking board certification in the specialty.

In 2025 he founded Yunella Women’s Health to practice medicine differently: a limited patient panel, longer visits, and highly personalized, physician-led care.

Why this matters

The field asks its most trusted physicians to set the standard.

Most patients evaluate an obstetrician on credentials they cannot interpret. Board certification is a floor, not a ranking. Hospital affiliation tells you where you will deliver, not who will be in the room.

There is one signal that is harder to fake: what the profession asks a physician to do for the profession. Teaching hospitals hand residency programs to the doctors they most trust to train the next generation. The certifying board recruits examiners the same way. Dr. Kim has been asked to do both.

He has spent his career not only practicing obstetrics, but deciding what competent obstetrics looks like.

That work has been recognized with the CREOG National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education (2011), the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award (2018), and the California Medical Association Foundation's Robert D. Sparks Leadership Achievement Award (2016). He has held faculty appointments at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the Keck School of Medicine of USC, Cedars-Sinai, and currently at Charles R. Drew University.

The Yunella model

A concierge approach to OB-GYN care.

In a high-volume practice, prenatal care becomes a relay: you choose a physician, then spend nine months meeting her partners, because the call rotation decides who is in the room when it matters.

Yunella is built the other way. Dr. Kim keeps a deliberately limited panel. He performs your ultrasounds himself. Appointments are scheduled for the length of the conversation rather than the billing code, and messages reach your physician rather than a queue.

Concierge Maternity Care extends that continuity across the whole pregnancy — preconception through prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum recovery — with Dr. Kim directly involved at each stage.

This model suits women seeking:

Clinical focus

Advanced obstetric and gynecologic care.

Eight areas of focus, from concierge maternity through minimally invasive surgery. Diagnostic and minor procedures are performed in the office rather than routed to a surgical center — same physician, same room, usually the same visit.

Dr. Kim received the AAGL Outstanding Laparoscopist Award and served on the Cedars-Sinai Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. His published research compares recovery and quality of life after myomectomy versus hysterectomy, and spans two decades of investigation into chronic pelvic pain — a condition that is frequently dismissed and that he has spent his career taking seriously.

Recognition

Honored for patient care — and for teaching physicians.

Peer-nominated clinical honors alongside national awards for medical education. Both matter: one reflects how colleagues rate the care, the other reflects who the field trusts to train the next generation.

Training

Academic training and physician leadership.

Dr. David Seil Kim earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego, and his medical degree from SUNY Downstate. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He later earned a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Research, an NIH-funded master's in clinical research, and an MBA. The research training is a credential about method — how a study is designed, where bias enters, and what a result does and does not support. In a field where screening thresholds shift and new prenatal tests arrive every few years, he reads the primary literature rather than the summary.

FAQ

Questions patients ask.

Where does Dr. Kim deliver babies and perform surgery?

Dr. Kim delivers his own patients and performs gynecologic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Does Dr. Kim see patients from Beverly Hills?

Yes. The office is near San Vicente and 6th, minutes from Beverly Hills, and Dr. Kim sees patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Beverly Grove, Miracle Mile, Hancock Park, Century City, Bel Air, Brentwood, West Los Angeles, and Mid-City.

What does "concierge OB-GYN" actually mean here?

A limited panel. One physician provides continuity across every visit, performs your ultrasounds personally, and is directly reachable through an encrypted channel. Appointments are scheduled for the length of the conversation rather than the billing code. It is a structural choice, not an amenity.

Does Dr. Kim manage high-risk pregnancy?

Yes — experienced obstetric care for pregnancies requiring closer monitoring, including advanced maternal age, prior loss, hypertension, diabetes, IVF pregnancy, and twins, with maternal-fetal medicine collaboration when it is indicated. Dr. Kim is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, not a maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist, and coordinates MFM consultation where a pregnancy calls for it.

How many years has Dr. Kim been in practice?

Dr. Kim earned his medical degree in 1997 and completed residency in 2001 — nearly three decades in medicine, including fifteen years at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Is Dr. David Kim accepting new patients?

Dr. David Seil Kim — who many patients know simply as Dr. David Kim — keeps a panel that is limited by design, so enrollment is not always open. Call the office or request an appointment and the team will tell you current availability.
