Concierge Maternity

You will know who is delivering your baby.

Concierge maternity is not hard to find in Los Angeles. Harder to find: a physician with nearly thirty years and seven thousand deliveries behind him who still keeps his panel small enough to be at every visit — and to be the one in the room when your baby arrives.

Most new patients are seen within a few days. See how enrollment works.

Why patients come to us

Where continuity breaks down.

Not the medicine. The way a full schedule is built around it.

  1. 01
    A different physician each visit

Your history explained again, from the top.

  2. 02
An answering service at 10 p.m.

A callback, eventually, from someone who has not met you.

  3. 03
Seven minutes, and a full waiting room

The visit ends before your questions do.

  4. 04
    Then labor begins

And whoever is on call at three in the morning is who you get.

None of this is a failure of medicine. It is what happens when a practice is built for volume. It is simply not the only way a practice can be built.

This is the whole idea. Everything else on this page exists to make it possible — including what happens in the rare case a baby arrives when Dr. Kim cannot be there. That is explained below.

Dr. David Seil Kim, MD, PhD, FACOG, board-certified OB/GYN in Los Angeles

Your physician

He has done this about seven thousand times.

Nearly thirty years in obstetrics. Twenty-five of them teaching.

For fifteen years Dr. Kim trained OB-GYN residents at Cedars-Sinai, where he also served as Assistant Program Director. He previously served as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The program

What changes, in practical terms.

Concierge obstetric care in Los Angeles takes many forms. Here is exactly what it means at Yunella.

One physician, start to finish

  • Dr. Kim attends every prenatal visit and plans his schedule around your due date so that he is the one who delivers your baby at Cedars-Sinai.
  • You are not passed between physicians, and you never repeat your history to someone meeting you for the first time.
  • The person making decisions during your labor is the person who has watched your pregnancy from the beginning.

Knowing who to call

  • A direct line to Dr. Kim when you need one. Not an answering service. For what is not an emergency but cannot wait until Monday.
  • Priority and same-day appointments — if he wants to see you, you are seen that day rather than added to a list.
  • Secure, encrypted messaging for everything else.
  • Appointments scheduled long enough that you leave without the questions you arrived with.

Care that happens here

  • An ultrasound at every visit, not a handheld Doppler. Most practices check the heartbeat with a few seconds of sound. Dr. Kim scans you himself and reads the screen with you in the room, while he is looking at it.
  • Four bonding sessions after 20 weeks, in a room kept just for them. Not medical scans — unhurried time to see your baby.

After birth, and privacy

  • Postpartum care is not handed off. Dr. Kim stays directly reachable through the fourth trimester, past the standard six-week visit.
  • Bleeding and healing, blood pressure, thyroid and metabolic changes, contraception and return-to-fertility planning, and how you are managing.
  • Encrypted, HIPAA-compliant communication, with hospital pseudonym coordination arranged in advance for patients who need it.
  • Aesthetic and body-recovery treatments are available separately through Yunella Wellness & Aesthetics, on your timeline.

Not sure whether this is right for your pregnancy?

Your time

More time with your physician.
Less time waiting.

We intentionally care for fewer maternity patients so appointments have room for actual conversation — not just a checklist.

Enough time to finish the thought, ask the second question, and leave knowing what comes next.

Over the course of your pregnancy

More face time. More continuity. Fewer rushed conversations.

From routine prenatal visits to ultrasounds and delivery, you are building a relationship with the physician who already knows your pregnancy.

You should not have to reintroduce yourself at every appointment.

*Typical, not guaranteed. Deliveries and urgent cases occasionally run long, and when that happens we tell you rather than leave you guessing.

The office

We asked one question when we built this place.

How can a women's health clinic feel less like a doctor's office?

The reception and waiting area at Yunella Women's Health in Los Angeles

Pregnancy is demanding — physically, and in ways that are harder to name. Most of it happens outside our walls, and we cannot make those months easy.

What we can control is the hour you spend here. So we built for that hour: natural light instead of fluorescent, quiet instead of a paging system, a room to sit in rather than a corridor to wait in. You can see the rest of it on our practice page.

None of this is medicine. It is simply the part of the day we can make gentler.

Being straight with you

What happens if he cannot be there.

Babies do not consult calendars. Dr. Kim plans time away around his patients' due dates, and in nearly every case he is the physician who delivers.

When he cannot be — an early arrival, two labors at the same hour — you are not handed to a stranger. He names his covering physician in advance, gives them your history himself, and stays reachable.

We would rather tell you this now than have you find it in a contract later.

How enrollment works

What to expect, week by week.

Before 10 weeks — no commitment

Start with a first visit and early ultrasound, billed the usual way. Nothing about concierge care is decided yet, and there is no paperwork to send beforehand.

At 10 weeks — you decide

Once your pregnancy is established, you choose whether to enroll in concierge maternity care for the rest of the pregnancy.

Who this is designed for.

Concierge maternity is designed for patients who place exceptional value on continuity, direct access, and knowing precisely who is responsible for their care — and who want that arrangement in place before anything goes differently than planned.

Enrollment is limited, and we will tell you honestly during your consultation whether the program fits your pregnancy.

Questions

What patients ask before they enroll.

Where will I deliver?

At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Dr. Kim has held privileges and taught for fifteen years.

When do I enroll?

Most patients decide around ten weeks, once the pregnancy is confirmed. Your first visit and early ultrasound happen before that and are billed the usual way, so nothing about concierge care is settled before you have reason to decide.

Can I enroll later in my pregnancy?

Often, yes, depending on how many spots remain and how far along you are. Later enrollment means less of the pregnancy is covered by the program, so we will talk through whether it still makes sense for you.

Does insurance cover the concierge fee?

No. The concierge fee covers access and services that insurance does not pay for. Your medical care is billed separately and handled the usual way. We will walk through exactly what that looks like for your plan during the consultation.

What if my pregnancy is high-risk?

Dr. Kim manages many higher-risk pregnancies and has done so for nearly thirty years. He is an obstetrician rather than a maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist, so when MFM involvement is warranted he coordinates it and remains your primary physician throughout.

What if I need a cesarean?

Dr. Kim performs cesarean deliveries at Cedars-Sinai. Whether your delivery is vaginal or surgical, the plan is the same: he is the physician managing it.

I am already pregnant and seeing another OB. Can I switch?

Yes, and patients do. We will request your records and Dr. Kim will review them before your first visit so you are not starting from the beginning.

How often will I see the baby on ultrasound?

Two different things. At every prenatal visit Dr. Kim performs an ultrasound himself rather than using a handheld Doppler, so you see your baby at each appointment. Separately, four bonding sessions are included after 20 weeks in a room kept just for them — not medical scans, just longer time to watch your baby.

How long does postpartum care continue?

Past the standard six-week visit, for as long as your recovery warrants. Dr. Kim stays directly reachable through the fourth trimester.

Can my partner come to appointments?

Yes. Appointments are scheduled long enough that both of you can ask what you want to ask.

Enrollment

We take fewer patients than we could.

Dr. Kim accepts a limited number of concierge maternity patients each month. That limit is the reason every promise on this page is possible.
